Preparation

God of our days and years,

we set this time apart for you.

Form us in the likeness of Christ

so that our lives may glorify you.

Amen.

Giving and Generosity

Giving God,

we receive so much from you,

and therefore have much to give.

Help us to share in the blessings of giving

as well as the happiness of receiving,

that your love may be more widely,

shared through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Lord Jesus, teach me to be generous; teach me to serve you as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to seek reward, except that of knowing that I do your will.

Amen.

St. Ignatius Loyola

Living Christ,

you have known insecurity and poverty:

free us from the need to seek

the security of easy wealth.

Give us generous hearts,

that we may know the richness of your grace.

For your holy name’s sake.

Amen.

Lambeth Prayers

God, from whom all good things come,

you shower us with blessings

and you make us stewards of your world;

give us generous hearts,

make us cheerful givers,

filled with desire to see the dawning

of the Kingdom of your Son,

our Saviour Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Heavenly Father,

you want us to be generous people offering our time, our skills and abilities

and our money to your service.

Guard us from holding tight

when we should be letting go

and honouring you as Lord of all we have.

In your name we pray. Amen.

Abundant God, you made us in your image and breathed in us a spirit of generosity that is both gift and response. Move us, we pray, to give as we have received - abundantly, generously, and joyfully, that our common ministry my ever bear witness to your unfailing grace. In the name of the three in whom we are one. Amen. Episcopal Diocese of Washington

God of abundance, the author and giver of all good things, grant us a gracious and humble heart, that we may give you glory through offering the First Fruits of our lives, and grow more into the likeness of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen. Sammi Tooze

and may our sacrifice of praise

be worthy in your sight,

to the glory of your Son,

our Saviour and Redeemer. Amen.

as your love compels us,

grant us grace as we offer ourselves to you,

and learn to be Christ in the world,

in whose name we pray. Amen.

Giving God,

we thank you for enriching us with every good gift,

and pray that our gifts together

enable us to be Christ in the world;

in whose name we pray. Amen.

God, who is greater than our hearts,

help us to serve one another,

to reveal our faith through action,

by abiding in your love. Amen.

Generous God,

save us from the meanness

that calculates its interest

and hoards its earthly gain;

as we have freely received,

so may we freely give;

in the grace of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Common Worship Daily Prayer; Psalm 112

Light Prayers

Blessed are you, Lord God of our salvation

to you be glory and praise for ever.

In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,

and the heavens are the work of your hands.

You create us in your image;

you gift us with the universe in all its wonder,

and all good things in earth and sky and sea.

You are our creator, the source of love and hope;

all creation sings to you.

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God for ever.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God, fountain of life,

to you be glory and praise for ever.

When your people were thirsty in the wilderness,

you remained faithful

and abundantly provided water from the rock for them to drink.

You visit the earth and water it,

you crown the year with goodness,

and your paths overflow with plenty.

You are the giver of all good things,

gifting to us each new day,

your mercies are new every morning,

and we, your creatures, glorify you.

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God for ever.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God,

our Rock and our salvation;

to you be glory and praise for ever.

You walk with your pilgrim people:

make us to know your ways and teach us your paths.

You sow in our lives the joy that comes from sharing,

and teach us that the gift grows with giving.

You breathe in us gracious hearts,

and reveal to us the delight of outpouring generosity,

so that in your presence we sing;

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God for ever.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God,

creator and life-giver,

source of all that is and is to be;

to you be glory and praise for ever.

You fashion us in your image,

and plant within our hearts the joy of giving.

You provide us with every blessing in abundance,

so that by always having enough of everything,

we may share abundantly in every good work;

as our hearts overflow

with many thanksgivings to God,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God for ever.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God,

overflowing in love.

Your Son gave us a new commandment

that we should love one another as he love us.

In the path of suffering,

his perfect sacrifice reveals to us

the purest expression of grace and love.

On a hill of darkness

he carried that judgement for the world:

greater love has no one than this,

to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God,

redeemer of the world.

Blessed be God for ever.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God,

gracious and merciful,

to you be glory and praise for ever.

Your Son is the true vine and source of life,

ever giving of himself that the world might live.

You teach us the way of holiness,

to walk as Christ walked,

and to love as Christ loved.

You choose us to be yours in Christ,

and bless us with every spiritual blessing,

and so we praise you,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God for ever.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God,

generous and true,

to you be glory and praise for ever.

From you comes every generous act of giving,

every good and perfect gift;

you call us into community

to share your the gifts with reverence and grace.

In fulfilment of your promise

you give us birth by the word of truth,

that as the first fruits of your new creation

we may glorify you for ever:

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God for ever.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God,

to you be glory and praise for ever.

You supply strength to those who serve

and words to those who speak.

You teach us to love our neighbours as ourselves,

to be hospitable to one another

and to serve one another

with whatever gift we have received.

Through your wisdom,

we learn the joy of giving -

a pure expression of love and grace;

blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God for ever.

Thanksgiving

O God, our heavenly Father, who so loved the world that you gave your only Son to die upon the cross: Pour your love into our hearts, we humbly beseech you; that we loving you above all things, may give up ourselves, our time, our money, our talents, to your service; for the sake of him who loved us and gave himself for us, Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen. John R W Stott

Heavenly Father, source of all life,

we thank you for the many ways

in which you have blessed and enriched our lives:

keep us from possessiveness and greed,

and lead us into the greater joy

of sharing your gifts with others.

Through Jesus Christ,

in whom is perfect peace. Amen.

Jenny Dann

O God, the fount of wisdom,

you have revealed to us in Christ

the hidden treasure and the pearl of great price:

grant us your Spirit’s gift of discernment,

that, in the midst of the things of this world,

we may learn to value the priceless worth

of your kingdom,

and be ready to renounce all else

for the sake of the precious gift you offer;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer Book for Australia

Thanks be to thee, my joy and my glory and my hope and my God. Thanks be to thee for thy gifts; but do thou preserve them in me, thus thou wilt preserve me, and the things thou hast given me will increase and be made perfect, and I shall be with thee: because even that I exist is thy gift. Augustine of Hippo

Lord Jesus Christ,

creator and giver of the light of each day;

we bless you for your generous gifts,

and thank you for the time, talents, money,

and possessions you have entrusted to us.

May we use them wisely in your service.

Amen.

Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise

for all that you have done for us.

We thank you for the splendour

of the whole creation,

for the beauty of this world,

for the wonder of life,

and for the mystery of love.

We thank you for the blessing

of family and friends,

and for the loving care

which surrounds us on every side.

We thank you for setting us at tasks

which demand our best efforts,

and for leading us to accomplishments

which satisfy and delight us.

We thank you also for those disappointments and failures

that lead us to acknowledge

our dependence on you alone.

Above all, we thank you for your Son,

Jesus Christ;

for the truth of his Word

and the example of his life;

for his steadfast obedience,

by which he overcame temptation;

for his dying,

through which he overcame death;

and for his rising to life again,

in which we are raised

to the life of your kingdom.

Grant us the gift of your Spirit,

that we may know him and make him known;

and through him, at all times and in all places,

may give thanks to you in all things. Amen.

Prayer of General Thanksgiving, BCP New York 1979

Stewardship and creation

Generous and loving God,

we offer you thanks and praise

as we recognise that all we receive

comes from you.

Guide us as stewards of your abundance,

and caretakers of all you have

entrusted to us,

that with thankful hearts

our faithful stewardship

will bear witness to your glory.

In Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

Lord God,

make me a true steward of your bounty,

where there is a need – let me see it;

where there is abundance – let me share it;

where there is time – let me spend it;

and where there is treasure – let me use it for your glory. Amen.

Christ Jesus,

as you had compassion on the starving multitudes,

let that mind be in us also which was in you,

that we may have the will and the wisdom

to work until all be fed, to your glory and through your grace and love. Amen.

Michael Counsell; Prayers for Sundays

Eternal God,

open our eyes to see your hand at work

in the splendour of creation

and in the beauty of human life.

Help us to cherish the gifts that surround us,

to share our blessings with our

sisters and brothers,

and to experience the joy of life

in your presence;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Time and talents

Almighty God,

whose Holy Spirit equips the Church

with a rich variety of gifts;

grant that we may use them

to bear witness to Christ

by lives built on faith and love.

Make us ready to live his gospel

and eager to do his will,

that we may share with all your Church

in the joys of eternal life;

through Jesus, Christ our Lord. Amen.

Heavenly Father,

you taught us by your Son Jesus Christ

that all our possessions come from you:

help us to be faithful stewards of our time,

our talents and our wealth,

and to consecrate gladly to your service

a due proportion for all that you have given us.

Take us and make us your own;

for Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen.

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation;

through your goodness we have our time and skills to offer.

Fruit of our lives and experience.

They will become tools to be used

for your glory.

Blessed be God forever. Amen.
